Stepping Into New Territory
Starting at Huawei Digital Power as Executive Solutions Sales Manager (Utility PV & BESS) marks a significant milestone in my career, but getting here was a journey in itself. The selection process, technical evaluations, and preparation required for a global leader in power electronics and energy infrastructure were intense and demanding.
The Sales Shift: Technical Sales for the First Time
This role marks a fundamental shift: for the first time in my career, I am working in sales.
Up to this point, my entire professional life has been built in the field: commissioning central inverters, troubleshooting high-voltage power conversion systems, managing 400+ MW asset portfolios, and establishing tier-3 technical support centers. I have spent years on construction sites under high-voltage energization deadlines, multimeter in hand, dealing with the raw realities of equipment performance.
Moving into sales is completely new territory for me. However, in utility-scale infrastructure, sales is not about pitch decks—it is about technical credibility and real-world engineering:
- Solutions Rooted in Reality: Utility customers, EPCs, and project developers do not need abstract promises. They need power electronics architectures that perform reliably under real site conditions.
- Deep Technical Translation: Bridging complex inverter topologies, BESS thermal management, grid code compliance, and SCADA controls with commercial strategy.
- Field Experience as an Asset: Having spent 15+ years solving problems when systems break in the field provides a unique perspective when designing solutions before they are built.
Embracing the Learning Curve
Stepping into sales for the first time is both exciting and humbling. Navigating commercial negotiations, customer relationships, and sales pipelines requires developing an entirely new set of skills alongside my technical background.
It is a difficult, high-stakes journey—and a new adventure I am eager to take on.
